Germany Also Changes Workplace Regulation Regarding Warm-Air Hand Dryers

The German workplace sefety regulation is coordinated by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA). The SARS-CoV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Regulation came into effect on August 20, 2020. Since its first publication, two amendments (Fabruary and May 2021) have been made and published in the Joint Federal Gazette (GMBl). The current version of the new SARS-CoV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Regulation has been into force since end of May 2021 and was drawn up jointly by the advisory committees on occupational safety and health at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS).

The German version of the above mentioned publication from BAuA also explicitly takes into account warm-air hand dryers. The section-quote as following: “Zweite Änderung: Die im Mai 2021 bekanntgegebene Aktualisierung der SARS-CoV-2-Arbeitsschutzregel (GMBl 27/2021 vom 07.05.2021, S. 622-628) beinhaltet insbesondere Klarstellungen und Konkretisierungen zum Einsatz von Gesichtsmasken, Ergänzungen zur Raumbelegung/Kontaktreduktion sowie weitere Präzisierungen (Einsatz von Warmlufttrocknern, geeignete Desinfektionsmittel, Kurzzeitkontakte).”

Yesterday, our German member starmix/Electrostar released a press statement: LINK (German) regarding this change in regulation witch seems to be a great success. However, it will took long for the business to recover. The proof of hygienic and efficient hand drying when it comes to electric hand dryers has been officially made.
