Global Handwashing Day

Today, we celebrate the Global Handwashing Day! This special day was initiated by the WHO in colaboration with the UNICEF, the United Nations International Children’s (Emergency) Fund, ten years ago. Since than, it annually has taken place on October 15th. This year`s theme focuses on the links between handwashing and food – including food hygiene and nutrition. Handwashing is an important part of keeping food safe, preventing diseases, and helping children grow strong. The tagline, „Clean hands – a recipe for health“, reminds us to make handwashing a part of every meal.

Handhygiene has to aspects thought: Frequently washing the hands is massively important. However, the way hands are dryed gets more and more attention. Cotton towels are definitely for private use only. After using several times, it has to be washed at 60 °C minimum. A review, lately done by Mayo Clinic concluded, that paper towels and electric hand dryers are at least dead level. Therefore, we suggest to install a high quality hand dryer facing frequent use in public restrooms.

For us, this is an important thought, when we talk about hand hygiene on the occasion of today`s Global Handwashing Day 2018. Our member Starmix has published a press release last week – only German, but you find the link here. For a better comprehensive hand hygiene!
